what do you do that you have enough time to be so immersed in yourself?
Like Narcissus staring lovingly at his own reflection in a pool of water?
you can't answer questions with questions?
You make me sound like Narcissus staring lovingly at his own reflection in a pool of water.

I don't really see the Mental Rebel as self-absorbed or narcissistic. If anything, I think the rebel might be spending TOO much time pondering the condition of ALL humans. Of course, this would only be possible if one assumes that the human condition is beyond repair, does not need repair, or does not deserve repair.
Thanks for the understanding comment, brain. I am indeed obsessed with the human condition, and it's easy to find time for your obsessions. However, I will admit that my investigation into the state of all humans has led me to analyze myself almost as if I were looking at a fossil dug up in Neanderthal Valley. As Schopenhauer recognized, an individual's best opportunity for insight into the thing-in-itself that is humanity is his own soul.
